Amazon FBA Fee Guide for New Sellers

Amazon FBA profit depends on referral fees, fulfillment fees, storage, returns, coupons, inbound shipping and advertising. A product with healthy gross margin can still lose money if size tier, PPC or return costs are underestimated.

Main fee categories

Referral fees are usually charged as a percentage of selling price. FBA fulfillment fees depend on product size and weight. Storage and prep costs may be smaller per unit but can matter when inventory moves slowly.

Launch planning

Before ordering inventory, run a conservative case with higher PPC cost and a return allowance. If the product cannot remain profitable in that scenario, reduce cost, change packaging, increase price or select a different product.

Common mistakes

Do not calculate margin using product cost alone. Do not ignore coupon cost during launch. Do not use one ACoS target across all products.
