How to Price Products for TikTok Shop
Good TikTok Shop pricing starts with contribution margin, not just competitor prices. Sellers need enough margin to absorb product cost, fulfillment, marketplace fees, coupons, creator incentives, returns and paid traffic. A product that looks cheap compared with competitors may still be impossible to scale if the break-even ad spend is too low.
Pricing formula
Start with expected selling price after discounts. Subtract product cost, shipping or fulfillment, platform fees, packaging, expected return loss and ad spend per order. The remaining amount is contribution profit per order.
Example workflow
If a product sells for $29.99 and you plan to offer a $2 coupon, use $27.99 as net revenue. Add product cost, shipping, platform fee and a return allowance. If the product only has $5 of room before ads, it cannot support a $7 acquisition cost without losing money.
Common mistakes
Do not ignore coupons, samples or refunds. Do not assume early viral traffic will continue forever. Do not scale a product that only works when ad spend is unrealistically low.
